Let’s be clear—Leona doesn’t need a rework, but Riftbound TCG just gave her one anyway.
This alt-art version, card 238a/298, keeps the same stats and mechanics but reinvents the vibe entirely.
Gone is the solemn, radiant war-leader. This Leona looks like she just stepped out of a futuristic mecha-arena, smirk loaded and solar blade humming.
Gameplay / Cool Mechanics
Mechanically, alt-art Leona plays the same as the original—4 cost, 4|4 statline, Shield while defending, and a stun-on-attack effect that shuts down one enemy unit’s combat damage for the turn.
That effect is brutal in tempo decks, especially when you’re trying to control a lane without burning removal early.
Leona fits in with midrange control builds across Mount Targon decks. Her ability forces bad trades, stalls heavy hitters, and pairs nicely with battlefield effects or gear buffs.
Her value spikes when she’s kept alive—Shield makes her tankier than her cost implies, and being able to lock a board piece every swing is just consistent value. You’re not hoping she gets you a win—you’re expecting her to.
Visuals
This version of Leona flips the aesthetic completely. The gold armor is replaced with a sleek, almost cyber-knight design.
Her hair’s more stylized, the lines sharper, and her whole presence has a League Splash Team polish that feels more modern and less mythic.
She’s got attitude here—part superhero, part mecha-suit captain. Even the background feels elevated, like she’s commanding a futuristic tower rather than standing on a mountaintop.
If original Leona was reverence and tradition, this one is flash and flex. Still sun-themed, but this time it’s reflected through a lens of bravado.
Pull Rate & Value Speculation
This is card 238a/298, making it an alternate art variant of the standard Leona. No confirmation yet on foil rates, but based on prior alt-art previews, this version likely appears at a lower pull rate.
In terms of demand: it’s Leona. Whether you’re building competitively or collecting champions, she’s near the top of the list. This version will appeal to both collectors and Targon mains who want their deck to hit as hard visually as it does mechanically.
This alt-art Leona from Riftbound TCG is clean, confident, and cooler than it has any right to be. Same toolkit. New armor. And yeah—it still stuns.
