Brazen Buccaneer from Riftbound: League of Legends TCG

Brazen Buccaneer
Spread the love

Riftbound Preview Season is only a few cards in, and we’re already seeing Bilgewater do what it does best—cut corners, take risks, and turn chaos into tempo. Brazen Buccaneer is a prime example. A 6-cost pirate that slides into play for four if you’re willing to toss a card? That’s the kind of gamble this region lives on.

In a game like Riftbound that rewards battlefield control and quick swings, discounting bodies like this lets you cheat tempo without fully committing to top-end greed.

Gameplay / Cool Mechanics

Brazen Buccaneer is a 6-cost, 5-power Unit with the Pirate subtype. But the real value is in its cost reduction mechanic:

As you play me, you may discard a card as an additional cost. If you do, reduce my cost by 2.

That gives you a 4-cost 5-power body, which is already above rate, if you’re willing to go down a card in hand. But if you’re running cards that want to be discarded—like bounceable units, death triggers, or graveyard synergies—it’s not a downside at all.

This card is perfect for tempo decks that want to stay aggressive past the mid-game, or for lists that already include card filtering or combo pieces. Even in a straightforward curve deck, the option to trade a dead draw for board presence is always going to be solid.

It’s not flashy, but it’s practical. And in a game with rotating battlefields and swing turns, Brazen Buccaneer lets you hit curve without waiting for it.

Visuals

The art tells you exactly who this pirate is. Big, loud, and very done with your judgment. He’s got a pile of oranges slung over his shoulder, oversized limbs, a half-open vest, and the kind of “you talking to me?” glare that belongs on a wanted poster. It’s exaggerated and cartoonish, but in a good way. It sells the character in one frame—this guy breaks rules and bottles.

Pull Rate & Value Speculation

  • Set Code: OGN

  • Card Number: 002/298

  • Rarity: Not marked, likely Uncommon

  • Foil Version: Available in booster packs

  • Alt Art / Overnumbered: None revealed yet

Not a chase card right now, but that could shift if Bilgewater discard synergy becomes real. It’s also early in Preview Season, and cards like Brazen Buccaneer usually get more love as decklists start forming. If a synergy shell picks up—especially one abusing discard triggers—this guy’s value climbs.

Brazen Buccaneer is a clean card with real upside. Low-maintenance, easy to slot in, and lets you play ahead if you’re smart with your discards. Might not make headlines now, but it’ll quietly win games.
