There’s no subtlety in Thermo Beam. No finesse. Just a glowing red blast that tells every piece of gear on the board to pack it up and melt.

In a meta already flirting with gear-based tempo swings and value engines, this is Riftbound’s cleanest, most absolute answer.

Thermo Beam doesn’t counter gear. It annihilates it.

Gameplay / Cool Mechanics

Let’s cut right to it—Thermo Beam is a five-cost Spell that plays as an Action, meaning it can be cast either on your turn or during a Showdown. The effect? Simple and devastating: Kill all gear.

This isn’t targeted removal. This is a one-sided, symmetrical, table-clearing nuke that resets every battlefield soaked in blades, tech, and tricked-out attachments.

If your opponent has gone deep on an equip-heavy strategy, Thermo Beam punishes them instantly.

No stacking value. No modular setups. Just a smoking crater where their win condition used to be.

And because it plays during showdowns, it also doubles as a reactive tech piece.

You can bait a gear-based swing, then detonate Thermo Beam mid-resolution for full psychological damage. It rewards you for playing second—and still lets you go first in style.

Visuals

The art is straight heat. Max Grecke gives us a gear core bursting apart from the inside, glowing with such intensity you can almost hear the metal screaming.

Shattered fragments fly upward like volcanic debris. The entire piece is soaked in reds and oranges, with fractured black lines emphasizing the instability.

It’s clean, centered, and brutal—just like the card’s effect.

Pull Rate & Value Speculation

Card 022/298, and right now there’s no official rarity disclosed, but Thermo Beam has serious “meta-staple” potential.

It’s the kind of card that gets slotted into every control list, every midrange that fears tall gear setups, and every sideboard in tournament play.

If a foil version exists—especially one with animated heat distortion or radiant glow—it’s a chase for both collectors and meta fiends.

There’s also potential for alternate-art promos during launch events or region-themed overnumbered prints. Watch it closely.

Thermo Beam is what happens when flavor, design, and function all scream the same word: overheat.

If gear keeps rising in Riftbound, this becomes a necessary evil—burn fast, burn everything.
