There’s no subtlety in Riptide Rex—and that’s exactly the point. At six mana for a 6|6 body with instant impact, this Bilgewater brute doesn’t finesse the board. It obliterates it.

If you’re looking for a closer that doesn’t ask questions, just rolls in with cannons blazing and a shark’s grin, Riptide Rex might be the splashiest finisher Riftbound’s revealed so far.

Gameplay / Cool Mechanics

Let’s get right to it: Riptide Rex deals 6 damage to an enemy unit when you play it. No setup, no trigger, no conditions. Just a full-force removal tool stapled to a beefy Pirate body.

That’s the kind of top-end Unit you don’t mind hard-casting. It swings tempo instantly, clears most mid-game threats, and dares your opponent to find a response—if they survive the hit.

This isn’t just some bomb you drop and pray. It’s surgical, targeted, and impactful. And in Bilgewater—a region likely to lean aggressive or midrange—that kind of clean-on-entry value is a dream.

Especially if you’re stalling into your swing turn or trying to knock out one last defender.

And because it’s a Unit, not a Spell, Riptide Rex sticks around. So not only are you nuking their board, you’re also putting them on a two-turn clock if they can’t handle the body.

Visuals

The art goes full blockbuster. We’re talking shark-headed cannon-blaster pirate lord erupting from the deck of a ship mid-firestorm. MAR Studio cranks the absurdity to eleven—and it works.

The sheer aggression in Rex’s expression, the arc of shattered wood flying in the background, the glowing eyes in shadow—it’s all motion and menace.

You can practically hear the “Rainin’ fire!” as a war cry echoing across waves.

It’s not elegant. It’s not supposed to be.

Pull Rate & Value Speculation

Riptide Rex is card 092/298 in Riftbound TCG. With power like this and a name players already know from Legends of Runeterra, expect this to land at Rare or Epic status.

If there’s an overnumbered or alt-art version—and there probably will be—this is one of those cards casuals and collectors will both chase hard.

Foil? Absolutely. This is the kind of card that begs for gloss. Watch the water effects and explosions gleam under light if the foiling’s done right.
